post ope APpost ope LATThe MICRONAIL™ Intramedullary Distal Radius System is another option for an angular locked device for distal radial fracture. It is primarily designed for minimally-invasive fixation of extraarticular fractures and simple intraarticular fractures of the distal radius. The advantage of the MICRONAIL™ is based on a less invasive option for soft tissue and its ability to minimize tendon complication with the zero profile concept. The proper use of MICRONAIL™ is important with evaluation of precise fracture pattern. Even though a patient may have a simple frontal intraarticular fracture, it is contraindicated for MICRONAIL™. For this type of fractures, a distal buttress screw may split the fracture site or potential risk for displacement of the fracture site.

Patient Selection
The MICRONAIL™ Intramedullary Distal Radius System is primarily designed for minimally-invasive fixation of extraarticular fractures and simple intraarticular fractures of the distal radius. It is particularly useful for treatment of patients who have failed non-operative treatment of such fractures and in osteotomies.

Indication for MICRONAIL™

MICRONAIL™ is designed for extraarticular fractures, according to AO classification A2 and A3 type. Type B is considered a contraindication for MICRONAIL™, 'simple' intra-articular fracture can be fixed by MICRONAIL™, but it is not clearly classified by AO classification type C.
